GENEVA – While the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe is a variation of an existing theme, as the German automaker’s first ever front-wheel-drive model (based on the same platform as BMW’s new family of Mini small cars), the new 2015 BMW 2 Series Active Tourer five-passenger, four-door hatchback is an all-new type of vehicle for BMW.
Not to be confused with the BMW 3 Series-derived, rear-wheel-drive 2 Series Coupe two-door, the 2 Series Active Tourer is a tall-roof utility vehicle that echoes the likes of the Mercedes-Benz B-Class and the Kia Rondo. While all-wheel-drive models are predicted to become available, the Canadian 2 Series Active Tourer models won’t go on-sale until 2015. In Europe, initial power choices include turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder and 2.0L gas engines and a 2.0L turbodiesel.
