The Straight-Goods for 2006
Our fifth annual Straight-Goods insider's buying guide reflects both change and tradition this year.
As per tradition, we pick the top six cars in each category that meet
the following stringent criteria: nothing over $150,000 Cdn.; manual
gearboxes mandatory; rear-drive preferred; sport suspensions welcomed;
and naturally-aspirated engines get our thumbs up, every time.
The categories for 2006 have changed this year to better reflect the types of
rides car zealots’ desire, such as Sports Compacts, Sports Coupes, Sports Sedans, Roadsters, Sports Cars, and Q-ships. All 36 of this year’s picks are exclusive to
new cars available in Canadian showrooms as of February 1, 2006. With
our SS.com choice we’ve even gone to the trouble of choosing the
best-driving model and options within a car’s range, right down to a
stealthy exterior colour choice, and that’s been reflected in the
pricing as well. Our Cudda hadda hints at present and future alternatives that you
may want to consider before you part with your hard earned.
Regardless of your budget, any of these cars will bring a smile
to your face on any given Sunday morning run.
Enjoy.
