2014 New York: Volkswagen Golf SportWagen TDI 4Motion Concept

DSC01192 Story and photos by John LeBlanc All the bits and pieces for the Volkswagen Golf SportWagen TDI 4Motion Concept currently exist: the body comes from the next-generation Golf SportWagen coming to Canada; the TDI engine is the updated turbo-diesel that also debuted here in New York in the 2015 Jetta; and the manual transmission is already standard Golf fare. All that’s left is the 4Motion all-wheel-drive option. Currently, if you want traction at all four wheels in your Golf, you’ll have to wait for the next Golf R. But with an eye towards the sales success of Japan’s Subaru, the Volkswagen Golf SportWagen TDI 4Motion Concept is a trial balloon to see if buyers would be interested in such a car from the German automaker. So if a diesel engine, manual gearbox, German-engineered sport wagon appeals to you, let Volkswagen of Canada know. DSC01194 DSC01195
