Story and photos by John LeBlanc
As part of the Nissan premium brand’s renaming program, for 2015 last year’s five-passenger Infiniti M midsize luxury-sports sedan has been renamed Q70. Along with the name change, the rear- and all-wheel-drive luxury four-door also gets some exterior styling tweaks with new head- and taillights and for the first time offered in regular and long-wheelbase versions.
Dubbed the Q70L, Infiniti has lengthened the regular-length Q70’s 2,900 millimetres wheelbase to 3,050 mm, lengthening the car 185 mm overall. The result is a substantial 142 mm increase in rear-seat legroom overall. The carryover 3.7-litre six-cylinder gas engine (with 330 horsepower) and 5.6L gas-eight (with 420 hp) continue to use a a seven-speed automatic transmission and will be offered in both Q70 and Q70L models. The RWD Q70 Hybrid remains as a short-wheelbase model only.
