2014 Geneva Motor Show: 2014 Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake

DSC00805 Story and photos by John LeBlanc GENEVA – If you’re a wagon fan and can’t handle that idea of yet anther unobtainable European model not coming to our shores, look away, because the new Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake looks ready to haul more than hockey bags. You may already be aware of the Canadian-market $104,500 Jaguar XFR-S mid-size sedan. It’s Jag’s answer to the BMW M5, powered by a 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque, supercharged 5.0-litre eight-cylinder gas engine. Well, that mill, mated to the sedan’s eight-speed automatic, powers the new, European-market rear-wheel-drive XFR-S Sportbrake wagon from 0 to 96 kilometres per hour in just 4.6 seconds, and tops out at an electronically-limited top speed of 300 kms/hr. DSC00806 Definitely coming our way is the new Jaguar XE, the brand’s long anticipated BMW 3 Series rival. Here in Geneva, Jaguar confirmed the newest (and smallest) Jag would arrive in about a year and to be sized and priced underneath the current mid-size XF sedan. The new XE will also be the first Jaguar product produced using a new architecture which was also showcased in the C-X17 SUV concept, and as such, will be the first car in its segment to use an aluminum body. A new family of Jaguar-Land Rover four-cylinder engines will also debut in the XE and (just like the 3 Series) don’t be surprised to see additional models, like a sports wagon, coupe and convertible.
