2010 Geneva: PininFarina creates an Alfa for new Graduates

[svgallery name="2010 Geneva Bertone 2uettottanta"] Story and photos by John LeBlanc GENEVA – One of the great treats of the Geneva show are the Italian styling houses that show up here, just a short blast up over the Alps where most are located in Italy’s north. And with the demise of the home Turin show in 2000, it’s almost a lock PininFarina, Bertone and ItalDesign Guigiaro will show up here with some tasty Italian goodies. First up was PininFarina and its 2uettottanta spider, above, and in video, below. The two-seat roadster is an “homage” to not only the 100th anniversary of some time client Alfa Romeo, but PininFarina celebrating its 80th birthday this year, as well. Named to “evoke” Dustin Hoffman’s Duetta Graduate ride, PininFarina says the 2uettottanta is not a pure styling exercise. In other words, it’s a pitch for Alfa’s business. The potential Miata-fighter is powered by a longitudinally-positioned 1.8-litre turbo-four banger engine, inspired by the “1750 Veloce” from 1968. Parent Fiat wants Alfa back in Canada by 2012. I say, hand over however many bags of money PinanFarina wants, and make the 2uettottanta a reality.
